Mint Oreo Milkshake

Mint Oreo Milkshake (Shamrock Shake)

Shamrock shakes, mint chocolate shakes, mint Oreo milkshake – whatever you call them at your house – they are the most refreshing treat! With just a few ingredients and 10 minutes, dessert is served.

Versions of this milkshake

The beautiful thing about milkshakes is you can adjust it to your dream taste with just a couple easy tweaks. Here are a few ideas:

MOST SIMPLE: Yes, you can use mint ice cream and milk and call it a day. I love using the fillings of the mint Oreos combined with vanilla ice cream because it adds an extra level of creaminess. But to save a couple bucks, go ahead!

CHOCOLATE: Want to add a chocolate factor and make this a mint chocolate cookies & cream shake? Leave the cookie portion of the Oreo inside the shake instead of using just the filling. Just note, the shake won’t be green like a traditional shamrock shake, but will it taste amazing? Of course!

MINT OR MORE MINT: Want to give your shamrock shake an extra kick of mint? Add mint leaves or a few drops of mint extract to enhance the mint flavor. You can also add a drop of green food coloring to bring out more green color as well if you prefer.

Tips

1. Make this a party! This is such a fun and easy party dessert. Make a milkshake bar by providing the main milkshake with a table full of toppings so guests can top how they’d like.

2. Freeze glasses ahead of time. If you freeze the glasses ahead of time, it will keep the milkshake thicker longer.

3. Don’t waste the cookies! If you don’t use the chocolate cookie portion in the milkshake, keep them to use as toppings for the milkshake or set aside and use for an Oreo Pie Crust like what I use in my Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie and Chocolate Thin Mint Pie

A few options to build this milkshake below!
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 2 shakes

Ingredients

Milkshake

  • 5 large scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 6 mint Oreos, insides only *see note for a few variations
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 2 mint leaves or 1/4 tsp mint extract (optional)
  • 1 drop green gel food coloring (optional)

Toppings (optional)

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • chocolate syrup
  • additional oreos
  • mini chocolate chips
  • maraschino cherries

Instructions

Milkshake

  • Remove the filling from mint Oreos. Set aside the filling for the milkshake and put back the extra cookie portion for another time or for toppings.
(You can also use the cookie part in the milkshake for a "mint cookies and cream" style of shake instead of just mint. Just know it will turn your shake brown.)
  • Put the scoops of ice cream, Oreo filling, and milk into a blender. Blend until all combined. Add additional items based on preference:
-Add additional milk if you prefer a thinner consistency
-Add either additional Oreo filling, mint leaves, or mint extract if you prefer a stronger mint flavor
-Add 1 drop of green food coloring if you prefer a stronger green color
  • To make your own whipped cream, combine heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar into a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Serve immediately and top as desired with a cherry, sprinkles, or Oreo!

Notes

*Mint Oreo Substitution: Using the insides of Mint Oreos makes for an EXTRA creamy milkshake, but you can also just double the amount of mint extract instead!
*Can I double?: Yes! This recipe doubles and triples just fine as long as your blender can fit it!
